Billing itself as the perfect upscale family-friendly getaway, Lodges at Deer Valley offers visitors stylish condominium residences in the Park City, Utah, area. When high-definition television (HDTV) became the standard more than ten years ago, some condo owners opted for HDTV service while others still had only stand-definition service. Even though the owners and rental guests weren’t yet complaining, Anthony Bartholomew, Lodges at Deer Valley’s general manager, knew he needed to find a service provider that could deliver a robust HDTV television lineup that would be an upgrade to what the facility offered at the time.
“We found a service provider that we thought would be an excellent solution,” said Anthony, “but we quickly found that its pricing wasn’t competitive and the provided technology wasn’t satisfactory. The provider simply could not fulfill the existing or future desires of our condo owners and guests. What we needed was a service provider that would enable all of our residences to have a consistently high-level television experience.”
Anthony talked to other lodging facilities in the area to get a feel for what service they were using. “I found that most were using some form of satellite or cable television service,” he said. “With that knowledge, I narrowed my search down to Groove Technology Solutions.”
“You want to do business with a service provider that becomes your partner. Groove is that partner that understands our strategic business needs.”
– Anthony Bartholomew, General Manager at Lodges at Deer Valley
Groove Technology Solutions set Lodges at Deer Valley up with a DIRECTV Residential Experience (DRE). DRE provides interactive HD entertainment for a consistent in-room guest experience. Properties benefit from technology that’s easy, flexible, and compatible with most TVs and wiring. Guests benefit from the full residential lineup with access to more than one hundred HD channels—just like they’re used to getting at home with DIRECTV.
However, Anthony wanted to take Lodges at Deer Valley to the next level. He went back to the Groove team for another upgrade to DIRECTV’s Advance Entertainment Platform (AEP). AEP is DIRECTV’s next-generation content delivery solution that provides DIRECTV’s linear satellite, apps, and on-demand content for an enhanced entertainment experience.
The only bump in the road for the AEP enhancement was that Lodges at Deer Valley was upgrading its WiFi system with another vendor. Because the WiFi upgrade did not meet the agreed-upon deadline, the DIRECTV upgrade had to be rescheduled multiple times.
“Even though we repeatedly rescheduled Groove’s DIRECTV upgrade, the Groove team was extremely accommodating,” said Anthony. “We had a hard deadline of December 4, and the Groove team was committed to finishing the project. All they wanted to know was how they could help. I can tell you that their customer service made a very difficult project much easier.”
The upgrade was successfully completed on schedule as promised. According to Anthony, “In the end, the benefit was not just an upgraded hospitality television experience—they really saved me. Had the Groove team not done what they did, I would've had to refund money to guests who checked in only to find that they had no television experience. So, the Groove team's help was a home run in my mind.”
Its television platform upgrade enabled Lodges at Deer Valley to eliminate DVD players and additional remotes, thereby streamlining the television experience for the owners.
The previous provider was not competitive when it came to cost. Groove was cost-effective and saved Lodges at Deer Valley a significant amount of money.
Anthony has received lots of favorable feedback from owners—and, most importantly, he hasn’t received any complaints.
